The Folkboat Eira

After the completion of the first trans-Atlantic race, from Plymouth to New York, held in 1960, the boat was sold to a gentleman from Boston, Massachusetts, and no doubt provided him and those who came after him, with a great deal of pleasure as they cruised the eastern seaboard.

But with the passage of time (and it's getting on for nearly fifty years since she was built) the old girl deteriorated to the point where she was in danger of being broken up, with bits being sold to furniture restorers, instrument makers and the like, who are always on the look-out for choice bits of well seasoned timber.

However, she always was a lucky boat, and she escaped the breakers yard, being bought by a young man who has spent the last few months restoring EIRA to pristine condition. The job is well under way, and by the Spring of 2004 she will be serving her young owner again.
